Every culture has their own forms of rites and rituals.
Even within Christianity.
Especially within Christianity.
We recoil at the locals dancing trance-like with their hands in the air. But we have version of such expressions too.
The issue is the total repudiation and dissociation of any and all pagan practices by missionaries. Legislating or ranting against them does not have much lasting effect.
Some practices cease only when people find something which they regard as better to put in their place.
